On 14 January 2016, Friends and local leaders gathered at the VFW Thursday to honor CW3R Harry Bowen, who, for a lifetime of community and national service, was named veteran of the year by the Greater Sierra Vista United Veterans Council. Harry retired from the Army after 22 years of service. He then worked in the defense industry until moving to Sierra Vista where he soon got involved with a number of public service organizations, many of them military-related. Several of those organizations include the Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve and the U.S. Army Warrant Officers Association, Arizona Silver Chapter. It was CW4R Tom Wisniewski and the members of the Arizona Silver Chapter who nominated Harry for Veteran of the Year. This is the first time a Warrant Officer has won Veteran of the Year.
